Personal Accident Insurance DHI

From 1 Oct 2017, MOM announced it will make changes to the Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) requirements for Foreign Domestic Workers (FDWs) with the aim to better protect the welfare of FDWs and adequately compensate them in the event of death or permanent disability due to accidents during their employment in Singapore.

How does this impact you (as an employer)?

1) When do you need to apply or renew the FDW work permit for your helper?

For FDW application and work permit renewals from 1 Oct 2017 and onwards, MOM officers may perform checks as per requirements. If the purchased Personal Accident Insurance for maids cover amount is lower than $60,000 (as per MOM requirements with effect from 1 Oct 2017), MOM could request the employer to do the necessary top up.

If you intend to apply or renew your maid insurance after 1 Oct 2017, compare and buy domestic helper insurance online now without the hassle of manually filling in endless paperwork!

2) Expect to pay higher premiums to meet the minimum sum assured

With effect from 1 Oct 2017, the minimum sum assured for personal accident insurance cover increased from S$40,000 to S$60,000. Annual premiums could increase by $7 to $15 due to this change.
