Want to spend your CNY skiing? Not too late to plan it now
When we think of snow and skiing, we think of European countries in the winter. These days, you don’t have to go this far to enjoy snow and skiing. You can just go to other places in Asia where it is cold enough in the winter that it snows. After all, not everyone can afford to go to Europe for their winter holidays. Japan and Korea are quite popular places for Singaporeans, who want to go for a winter vacation. Ski resorts are available with lessons on how to ski and many other activities. Here are the ways to plan a great ski vacation.
Decide on your budget
Like any vacation you are planning to take, the first step is to decide on a budget. With a ski vacation, you have to plan earlier on if this is the only vacation you are going to take in a year or if you are planning to visit more places. For a weekend of skiing in either Korea or Japan, your budget per person would be approximately $2000. Cheaper options are available if you can get a cheaper resort, discounted hotel rooms or low-cost flights.
Travel tips:
You can get travel discounts if you sign up to be a member of famous hotel chains that offer memberships, if there is a hotel in the place you are planning to visit. For additional discounts and rebates, some credit card companies offer their customers with discounts on hotel bookings and flights.
A great way to save money is to opt for a 1-stop flight instead of a non-stop flight. You might go through a layover of an hour to three hours long, but in return, you get to save some money. If you are going with a group or with your whole family, you can save on hotel rooms if you choose a large room instead of a single or a two people room.
Where to go for a ski vacation?
A ski vacation is similar to a summer beach vacation. All you need to do is to pick a resort of your choice. A variety of ski resorts can be found in Japan and Korea, but some of the most popular ski resorts around the world are located in Hokkaido, Japan. Korea too has many interesting ski resorts and after the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, people started becoming more interested in going on ski trips there.
Lift pass in Korea and Japan
To get to the skiing area from the resort, you will have to pay a lift pass. You can either get it for a day, which allows you to ski whenever and how many hours you want, and you can also purchase a half-day lift ticket if you are just planning to go and have some fun skiing for half a day. In Korea, a 1-day lift ticket is around $100 whereas a half-day ticket would be 20% less. In Hokkaido, you can get a 1-day ticket for about $70.
Other than saving by getting less than a day’s pass, you can also choose to get either a 2-day or 3-day pass, which is cheaper than the 1-day ticket or the half-day pass. If you are an avid skier or you plan on coming quite often, a season pass would be even cheaper and it would also be better if you purchase your own ski gear or equipment.
To be included in your skiing plan
Skiing sounds like a really fun activity, especially if you have never tried it before. It can also be injurious because falling on ice causes more injuries or damages than falling on land. Just to be safe and stay protected on your trip, look out for the most appropriate travel policy that supports skiing as part of its coverage. It is better to be prepared, even if you are an avid skier. With the right travel insurance policy on hand, you will be able to enjoy your trip without any worries.
